WHAT WE DID

Project: "Hispanics and the Civil War" Book

This was the first of several books done for the National Parks Service Civil War Sesquicentennial series, “Hispanics and the Civil War: From Battlefield to Homefront”. It focused on the role of U.S. and extra-territorial Hispanics in the conflict. Our goal for all these books was to create dramatic visual appeal with text that is easy to read. The National Association for Interpretation awarded this book 2nd place in their media awards competition…only because our Lincoln book had already taken 1st place.

Like the other books in the series, Graphic Works used archival imagery as a source and created something more than the sum of its parts. We used large amounts of quiet space in the design to allow the powerful imagery to take center stage. This book compels the reader to explore the photos and information because of the dramatic visual appeal.
